I'll admit I was furious when I wasn't called to be on the youth counsel this year. I just assume all things should be handed to me, and since I reside in a small ward... they usually are. Youth Conference this year was fun, but not too exciting since I feel like it's the same thing every year. Here is a short summary of our schedule.
Friday Night: Dinner and then team work games on the ball fields. It was freezing! The closing consisted of an inspirational sports story and a man (I have no idea who he was) speaking about medals and singing jazzy versions of a hymn *hallelujah!*. There was a carnival themed after party where everyone could do what they liked instead of being forced to stay with their teams. (haha like there was any enforcing going on.)
Saturday Morning: Sister Baer spoke on self worth and then a friend of the Petries spoke about dating. Both speakers were great and it was wonderful to hear from two new people instead of seminary teachers and stake leaders we hear from all the time. Then more team building games. It was fine, but we sorta did that the night before.... Snack breaks broke up all these activities and then after lunch we went to Zack Bell's eagle project.
Saturday Night: NEVER arrive on time to an activity. haha The dance started out fun with good food, lights, and a cute photo booth. Towards the end though my optimism was dying and I really just wanted to go home. I ended up doing that because leaving in somewhat good spirits is better than staying and being a kill joy.
I appreciate the youth counsel and all they did (or tried to do) for the event. Looking back I'm ok I wasn't called because I have a "my way or high way" attitude that I inherited from my mother about stuff like this and "Wizard of Oz" kept me busy. The overall event was successful and these shirts are the best yet. I feel like a popular thought is "our stake is sooooo lame" but it could always be worse and it also depends on what you put into it. Somethings don't change, but my attitude towards them has. Now just one more crazy week till Spring Break.
